Three manufacturers were identified: Lola, Cooper, and Lotus. Lotus relied on its existing relationships with the American manufacturer, but Ford chose Lola and its GT Mk VI. The 46th project from the Hethel firm is a car well ahead of its time with a steel beam chassis, fiberglass body, aided by a drag coefficient of 0.29 and a total height of barely one meter, which promotes an extremely low center of gravity.
